Okay. So. There the three of us are – Brett, Ali and myself, surrounded by a roaring South-Easter, a wild sea and wave after wave of sand stinging our legs. The engagement shoot is a little more difficult and testing than most because spray off the sea keeps on misting up the lens. So it’s click, click, wipe down lens, click, click, wipe down lens. We’re about halfway through the shoot when Ali jumps up onto Brett. I shout out: ‘Brett! Whatever you do, don’t drop her!’ I repeat myself. Twice. I almost beg him not to drop her. I may as well have been speaking to a seal on the other side of Robben Island, because next thing… unlucky for Ali and into the water she went. Like, right into the water – as in ‘oh look at that wave that just crashed over that poor girl lying on the sand in all of her clothes. Oh look! Another wave is crashing over her, it’s just bigger than the first!’ Fan-tas-tic! I must tell you I was more than just a bit surprised when she gave the thumbs up to carry on the shoot (and she wasn’t mildly wet, she was drenched) – and all of this with a big smile on her face. Strange, but bloody sporting! Brett and Ali, well done, good on you! See you in 2 weeks for the wedding (and let’s stay away from that fountain at Neethlingshof shall we?
