Wedding season runs for about 9 months of the year, then things get a little quiet over the winter period. This is when I concentrate on my family portraits which can broadly be described as controlled chaos. Often families want to wait for the summer for their family photos, but it’s not always a great idea, simply because there are always one or two family members who have overdone the sun and end up looking more like crayfish than anything else. The Lumb’s went for the winter shoot – always a great idea because the light is so much nicer, the clouds add drama, and the storms around Cape Town deliver something quite special. I shot the Lumb’s at about 9-ish one Sunday morning in Langebaan. Family shoots take about an hour or so and believe me, by the end of it, you’ll want a newspaper and a fire!
