Anne-Marie and Gys were married at the very beautiful Eben-Hauzer out in Paarl (they’re pretty much neighbours with Nederburg). Forget anything you’ve ever heard about My Big Fat Greek Wedding, because this was without a doubt, My Very Big Humungus Dutch Wedding. Yup, try a bridal retinue of 23 people all up at the alter before Anne-Marie even made her appearance! I must admit, I felt a bit like an aerobics instructor on steroids as Anne-Marie walked into the church – dart left, go right, push forward, up, down, to the left, right again and stretch and stretch. But get the shots I did. The service was in Table View so we took advantage of Bloubergstrand to take the family pics and then back we went to Eben-Hauzer for some sunset shots on the estate. Believe me, I can more than hold my own when it comes to energy levels, but I think I may have met my match in Anne-Marie. She has a LOT of energy (I should have worn running shoes). We circumnavigated the estate for about an hour (at speed) and then it was time for the reception which had it all – good food, good wine, good friends and plenty of dancing and good cheer – in English, in Afrikaans and in Dutch. I’m still a bit stiff from it all!
